A fire early Wednesday morning heavily damaged Don’s Hot Dogs in Orland Park.
Orland firefighters responded to a call about 1 a.m. of a fire at the restaurant at 7245 W. 151st St.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire that broke through the roof. Crews began an aggressive attack and the fire was brought under control within an hour.
Firefighters determined that the fire started in the rear of the small fast-food eatery. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but some reports said it was a natural gas explosion.
No one was injured. The building sustained considerable damage.
Original owner Donald Habich opened the hotdog stand in 1980 as a Jr.’s Hot Dogs. He also owned a Jr.’s Hot Dogs in Oak Forest.
In 1998, the eateries became known as Don’s Hot Dogs. In 2000, Habich sold the business to his son, Joel.
