Palos Heights police are investigating a strong-armed robbery of a woman in her garage in the 11900 block of South 71st Avenue about 5 a.m. Tuesday.
An unidentified man knocked the woman down and snatched her purse, according to police.
“Unfortunately, it is true,” said Deputy Chief Dave Delaney, confirming reports going around on social media.
In a short video captured by a Ring camera across the street from the victim’s home, a car can be seen pulling into the garage, followed by a struggle and screaming.
Without going into detail, Delaney said investigators believe the woman was targeted by the man, who evidently knew she would be carrying money when she returned home.
“He wrestled the purse from her and knocked her to the ground, but she was uninjured,” said Delaney.
The victim panicked and was unable to provide much of a description of the robber, who fled on foot north on 71st Avenue toward College Drive (Route 83).
