Karen Stocik (above) and the other librarians at the newly reopened Palos Heights Library now wear masks, as do visitors, and work behind plexiglass in compliance with COVID-19 health regulations. Books being returned to the library at 12501 S. 71st Avenue must be placed in the book drop outside the library, so they can be sanitized and quarantined for three days before being returned to shelves. Browsing is not allowed, and meeting rooms are not available but librarians are happy to bring whatever books are requested to the counter.
Library assistant Anne Mayer (above) and the other staff at the newly reopened Palos Park Library, 12330 Forest Glen Boulevard, now work behind plexiglass, and facemasks are required to enter the building. Visitors may browse the shelves for the books but they are asked to place any they pick up on to carts, so they can be sanitized before they are returned to the shelves. Chairs and couches have also been removed to promote social distancing.
