Working on Christmas really paid off this year for Palos Park Police Officer Angelo Marasco.
Marasco was on patrol Christmas Day when he ran into a gentleman who thanked him for being on patrol and presented him with a Christmas card.
When Marasco opened the card, he found a note that read, “Thank you for working today.” Also in the card was $1,000. He said he did not know who the man was who gave him the card.
The money was donated to the Palos Park Police Foundation.
Mayor John Mahoney said, “Many people are eager to assist law enforcement and help public safety. Policing is changing, technology’s changing, equipment is changing and we must keep up, the Palos Park Police Foundation is an opportunity to partner with members of our community to benefit the department.”
The Palos Park Police Foundation supports Palos Park Police Department initiatives and programs that the village cannot readily fund. Less than 2 percent of the police department’s annual budget goes to discretionary spending on equipment.
The Foundation helps the Palos Park Police Department keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, training techniques and strategies. This public-private partnership provides the Palos Park Police Department with the means to launch experimental programs, expand training and further its professionalism.
